LATEST NEWS 26th April 2005

Members please note that in the absence of the club not having elected a
Chairman at the AGM last November the present committee has approached John Martin to see if he would fill this position as no other person has been forthcoming.

John has kindly agreed and will be formally co-opted at the committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday 10 MAY 2005.

It is important that the business of the club and the committee has the benefit of a Chairman to ensure the efficient running of the club.

Naturally this position, will like all other committee positions in the club, be subject to formal election at the AGM  November 2005 .

The committee are greatful to John for filling the breech at this time.

Regards
Brian Pleasance
Club Secretary

Selsey Cricket Club Newsletters 2005

Dear Members,

Trusting you have all Wintered well?

We are now fast approaching the New Season, and as Easter is early this year, we have to get some pre-season preparations under way as soon as possible.

The Club will open on Easter Sunday at Lunchtime, 12:00 p.m.

Before that it is hoped that the Net Area will be assembled, not withstanding that we do have the "Mobile" nets for use.

Andy Horner and Peter Amis will require assistance for a number of jobs, and both the Club Captain Dave Richardson and Adam Le’Marquer 2nd XI Captain are aware of this having attended a recent Committee Meeting, where a Pre-Season work party was on the Agenda, so be prepared for a call, as many hands make light work.

During the close season, we have again fallen victim to Vandalism. This time it is the Pavilion wall, and approximately 30 Meters has been demolished, the repair is in hand with one of our insurers, and it is hoped to be completed in time for the start of the Season on 16th April.

The Fixtures Secretary Jim France, has completed the Fixtures, and the full Fixtures cards are being printed, and should be available from Friday 1st April.

We shall start with the Following Friendly Matches

Saturday 16-Apr Selsey v Pagham : Home

Sunday 17-Apr Goodwood v Selsey : Away

Saturday 23-Apr Selsey v Bognor : Home

Sunday 24-Apr Selsey v Littlehampton :Home

The First League games are as follows

Saturday 30-Apr Burgess Hill v Selsey 1 Away First X1

Saturday 30-Apr Selsey 2 v Eastergate 2 Home Second XI

As British Summer Time begins, and clocks go forward on 26th March, nets should commence on the Following Friday 1st April at 6:00 p.m, and maybe a lunchtime nets session on Easter Sunday 27th March, as the Club will be open.

We are fortunate again this year to have league Match Ball sponsorship, form Eclipse Bookmakers, whose Logo is featured on the Fixtures Card and Website.

Eclipse has also shown an interest in Kit Sponsorship, such as Club Jerseys Etc, and that’s something I will follow up on, for next Season.

We have also kindly received a donation from Ray Baker, a former Committee Member, and this assists with the purchase of additional balls for the Friendlies and Sunday Matches.

The cost of balls is a major expense for any Club, so may I remind players and Members, that I did appeal at the November A.G.M for Donations, as I am sure many Employers would like to donate the Cost/Sponsorship, for a Match day ball, or Team Teas, which are approximately £10.00

The Club still remains without a Chairman, following the November A.G.M, when Bill Emerson stood down.

The Committee remains mindful of this, and are actively seeking someone to take up this position.

Subscriptions 2005: These are presented as follows by the Membership Secretary, Penny Hesp.

The fees are as follows:

Playing Member £25.00

Partner £5.00

Non-playing Member £10.00

Payments can be made at the club

Or to

Brian Pleasance 176 Gainsborough Drive Selsey PO20 0HH

Please Comply and renew as soon as possible, as requested, payments as previously can be made in the Club or if send Directly, ensure if paying by Cheque, this is made payable to "Selsey Cricket Club", Membership Cards will be available for collection from the Club.

An article is being prepared for inclusion in "Selsey Life" Magazine. This will be basically be introducing Selsey Cricket Club or rather re-awakening the Locals that we are still here.

This will detail the Club, its opening times etc, and the number of sides, seniors, colts etc that we run.

We will invite People to become members, and also players at all levels.

As the Season progresses, Selsey Bill C.C, will continue to use our Facilities, and most of there are on a Wednesday Evening, and the Clubs Bar is open to all on those nights.

We expect to host the U.M.A Games where our Ladies provide the Buffet, again these are evening dates to be advised. These games help boost our revenues.

During the August Selsey Festivities and the arrival of the Fair we shall be "open" to the Public over the Bank Holiday.

This requires a huge effort to organise, but remains financially beneficial to the Club.

Again we shall host the Selsey Fest ivies Rounders night, with John & Jane running this – we will be out to retain the Trophy.

Our Member and Selsey Bill Player "Bobby" Hoare has been unwell, and gone through an extremely difficult time of late. He is on the mend now, and look forward to seeing Him again soon and our best wishes go to Him and his Family.

In conclusion let’s hope for a successful season, following the First’s promotion as Champions, and this goes to all sides in League, Friendly and Colts level.

Enjoy the your Season – Good Luck,

Brian Pleasance,

Secretary
